I’ve gone skydiving 4 times and love it and wanna get my A and possibly B license. The places I’ve gone to, don’t give licenses. Anyone have any places where it’s not super far and you can get certified.
Separate note for those that are certified, gear I heard is expensive how’d you go about it?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, getting a skydiving license is indeed an exhilarating goal! While the context doesn't provide specific skydiving schools, it's common for skydiving certification programs to be available at various drop zones near major cities. For New York, you might want to look into skydiving centers in the Northeast region that offer the USPA (United States Parachute Association) A and B license courses.
As for the gear, it's true that skydiving equipment can be quite pricey. Here are a few tips based on previous WSO threads:
Start with Rental Gear: Initially, you can rent gear from the drop zone where you're training. This helps you get a feel for different types of equipment before making a purchase.
Buy Used Gear: Many skydivers start with second-hand gear. There are online forums and marketplaces where you can find quality pre-owned skydiving equipment.
Look for Package Deals: Sometimes, you can find package deals that include a container, main and reserve parachutes, and an AAD (Automatic Activation Device) at a discounted rate.
Save and Budget: As with any expensive hobby, it's wise to save up and budget for your gear. Consider it an investment in your safety and enjoyment of the sport.
Remember, safety is paramount, so ensure any used gear is thoroughly inspected by a qualified rigger, and always prioritize purchasing a reliable AAD for your rig. Keep chasing that adrenaline, and blue skies!
