Standing desks?

Hey all - do any of you use standing desks in the office? If so, how did you get one? I have one set up at home and I'd really like to ask HR to get one. Not sure if it's something they would be open to or if it's okay, as no one currently besides one MD on the floor has a standing desk. It would definitely help with blood circulation and keeping awake and overall productivity in general during the day lol.

Yes, have one, love it. We have to get a doctor's note to get approval; that was straightforward to obtain.

At first nobody dared to do it, but then an MD got a standing desk, then like a waterfall, practically everyone else in our team got one too. Life's too short, if you're at a relatively large bank (i.e. not a 3 man boutique and will be out of your MD's pocket), just do it now and ask for forgiveness later, doesn't matter how it looks or if people are jealous / give you a hard time.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

I do at my new gig.

Old gig wouldn't buy them...so I sat for 7 years.

Everyone here has them. It's really nice to be able to stand at 2pm and beat the mid-afternoon lull or when the achy back is starting to act up.

Granted, we have the nice motorized ones where the whole desk space moves up and down, so I can still have my dual screens and keyboard/mouse move with it.

This does sound really awesome.

We have to request them and have an accompanying doctor's note. Any doc will write a note saying you would benefit from not sitting 10 hours a day...

At my BB they really don't care. The note is just to stop every other person from asking for one. They aren't always purchased new so I'm sure we got a bunch lying around somewhere.

The majority of us have gotten them as they renovate our floors. Ours are by Knoll and it has 2 pre-sets that you program yourself, for your preferred height when seated and when standing.

It's nice to have the variety, when my back is tight/achey, I prefer to stand. I see a lot of the analyts and associates like to activate the standing option when they're going over a pitchbook or model, much easier to look at a screen straight ahead then hunch over and around the one person that's seated.

At my previous gig at a law firm, there was a partner with a treadmill desk, that was truly funny to see, someone walking in place while typing away at a keyboard, LOL.

Treadmill desks will be hard for you to work, based on what you said. I have a treadmill desk near my regular one and truthfully, it's hard to work on a model or anything substantial when you're going at full speed (not very fast; maybe 2 MPH). They're perfect for Internet browsing and rocking out to music, though!
