Get a set of used irons on fb marketplace/ebay, there's some great value to be found on there instead of spending £700-1k on a brand new set as a beginner. Would do the same for a putter and driver as well. Then book a coaching session or two with a pro at a driving range - these tend to be fairly inexpensive and will be well worth it as it takes a long time to really grasp the mechanics of a golf swing, and having someone to point out what you're doing wrong should speed up the process a bit.
