Staying Informed

Hello everyone,

I am very curious to know, what publications do you read daily, weekly, monthly ( newspaper, magazines, websites)? This is to stay informed of what's going on in the country, the world (politics, economics, finance, culture), about what investments to make? Just wanted to see how people fared with their answers in this group. Thanks.

Hey Michiavelli, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:

If we're lucky, maybe these professional users will respond: marceloja @sl55amg" Jonaldo

I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.

If your goal is literally to “stay informed,” read Axios. High-quality, purely factual, non-partisan news.

For financial news, I prefer FT, but WSJ is also decent. I also read The Economist, delivered weekly.

Stay away from the shitty leftist media (TMZ, CNBC, Bloomberg, NYTimes, etc.) - reading it is a complete waste of your time and can actually prove detrimental to your intellectual capacity.

Regards

ahh the tangled web of the media. the trouble is bias is everywhere, either outright via support for one side versus the other (CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News), or implicit in what is reported versus what's not reported, but you have to balance your sources in order to stay balanced in your opinions. I have a conservative lean, so I tend to look for media sources challenging my viewpoints as well as centrist pubs.

financial: bloomberg, reuters, factset, my company, WSJ, FT political: NYT, WaPo, Politico other: al jazeera, south china morning post, BBC, local papers

occasionally I'll look at drudge report, zero hedge, RT, fox news, and so on, but the above are good for what I want. and before you jump in my shit for reading NYT and voting for Romney, let me explain.

I read NYT and WaPo because that's where 99% of democrats get their info from (including my commie family), so I need to know what's being written, I have democrat clients too. I read reuters when I just want the facts. I read politico for a more moderate perspective. I already have the conservative viewpoint so if I watch fox news it's just because abby huntsman is anchoring.

the economist is great, but it's so fucking long, I can't get through it so I don't subscribe anymore.

as for logistically how do I stay up to date? I can't very well spend hours and hours reading the news, so I have it pushed to me. you can get all of the info you need most of the time from alerts. beyond that, I get a daily email from WSJ and just open the stories that interest me.
