Suit Colors / Designs?
Looking to WSO for suit design ideas - not necessarily brands, moreso inspiration for colors / styles to round out my wardrobe. FWIW, currently an ASO at a large bank.
I got my typical charcoal, navy (have plain navy, and a windowpane one with lighter blue lines), mid-blue, and light grey. Probably looking to add 1-2 more.
Not a ton of criteria, only that it's too flashy (both in terms of color and design). Not a huge fan of pinstripes (will save that for D / MD), and colors that are too flamboyant / draws attention.
Anyone have ideas? Bonus points for pictures
I like blue suits. Brown shoes - no black shoes (anymore).
How blue?
Lighter than Navy but not super bright.
This blue is a good range.
This blue is pretty light but probably would be the lightest I would go. Would be a good summer suit.
double post
Brown, never in town.
Depends on the construction of what you already own. I decide based on construction before specific aesthetic details.
For instance, won't skip navy for winter just because I have navy for the spring.
Aim for two suits each of low, medium, or heavy weight if you haven't already.
You'll want at least two that are unlined, a loose weave, or linen blend for the hottest weather.
Two in flannels for winter etc...
Construction is such an underrated aspect of suits, you can wear a suit in 20 degrees weather and 80 degree weather, but don't assume it's going to be the same suit.
I don’t like brown shoes and suits in business. I detest brown shoes and grey suits.
See if you can get away with a herringbone stripe. They look clean, not too flashy, and very professional. Save the windowpanes for the private bankers
I think windowpane looks good in pics but can be too much in real life. I have the macy’s Bar III in windowpane grey as it was $100 and I’m not afraid of it getting messed up, but I think it’s too loud
Thanks all for the suggestions - anyone ever come across a dark, matte, teal color? I'm not sure if teal is the right word to use (all the ones on google are too bright and look goofy). Basically navy with a green-ish hue. Something like this but even darker - not sure if it can be pulled off in an office setting.
Might just be the tone of the photo, but I would honestly assume someone was gay if they showed up to a normal office in a teal suit. Not a jab by any means, just an observation.
Love the light summer blue one posted higher up on the thread.
I think part of the issue with the photo is that the shirt and tie do not go with the suit very well. It would probably look better with a white shirt and a tie that matches the suit color
Agree with both points - the picture isn't really the color I was thinking of (meaningfully darker than that) but it's the best one I found from 5 seconds of Google searching.
.
Check out "Husbands Paris", they have some pretty neat stuff
Also an ASO looking to add to the wardrobe. Have the standard charcoal and navy in the rotation but looking to branch out.
How often do you wear the windowpane navy suit? I see it them on TV (CNBC/Bloomberg) all the time and think it looks good but some comments here have me debating if I should go with something more professional. Does it look something like this?
Been thinking about doing a blue windowpane blazer with light thin lines to go with grey slacks and loafers. This would be for more "business casual" outings or Fridays, not client meetings. Also planning to do half lining. Would this be out of line/not professional?
The comments showing the lighter blue suits look great imo. Great for spring/summer and I think these would look even better on a younger banker.
Edit: sorry tried to make that picture small but am too noob
