Summer Analyst with Macbook

Hi all-

I am required todo the Wall Street Prep training, and I am on the excel crash course. The guy emphasizes how important short cuts are, but here's the problem, none of them work on my Macbook pro. I know the simple solution is to go out and buy a windows computer but I don't have the money right now.

Is it THAT important I learn all the short cuts? I know the obvious Excel for Mac shortcuts since I've been using it for a few years now, but no way could I ever not use my mouse with Excel for Mac.

Can I ignore all the shortcuts for now until I get a windows computer full-time in office?

You can download a Windows emulator for your Macbook that you can just boot up and then do things in windows on. Lots of people use them to play old, Windows exclusive computer games (Age of Empire, Zoo Tycoon, etc.) I suggest you start your search there if you don't want to buy a new laptop.

Additionally I think there are some advanced settings within excel on OSX where you can alter the shortcuts to moreso reflect windows shortcuts, but I'm honestly not sure how it works / if that's a real thing. Worth a shot though if it's possible.

Download a free copy of windows 10, it will have the activate watermark on the bottom right of the screen but who cares. install that on your MacBook with boot camp and use windows... spend $15 on a windows keyboard.

If you do the above you’ll be fine. If you have extra money to buy a secondary monitor that would be helpful but you’ll survive without. Just do your best to become familiar with the windows version of Excel as you will be using this 99% of the time.

Obviously your coworkers cant look over your shoulder to see if you're doing the shortcuts and not using a mouse, but you will be more productive and time efficient. It wont seem that way but being able to do basic tasks in 5 seconds as opposed to 30secs-1min every now and then adds up.

However once you get in the office you will definitely need to be familiar with how to use a PC - not just how to work Excel on a PC but knowing where everything is. Serious question have you ever used one?
