Trump is going to ban DEI on his first day in office within the govt via executive orders, and work to do the same in the private sector. We already have cases going towards higher level courts which SCOTUS will rule on at some point as well. The woke mind virus's days are numbered. Can't wait for recruiting, hiring, promotions, etc to finally be merit based once again

I'd offer a bit of nuance to this directionally correct statement. DEI today is probably operating at 60% peak power (peak is probably circa 2021) due to: 1) a big int rate driven economic slowdown (biggest driver by far as we culled some programs, held back on others, cut underperformers who were disproportionately DEI candidates) and 2) broader public backlash which was bolstered by SCOTUS's ruling that affirmative action is illegal in higher ed.
Already we are seeing the next driver emerge which is Trump's victory, there are articles from even the past few months of firms tamping down on DEI (Tractor Supply, Lowe's, etc) as we see Trump's odds of winning having increased. Now that he has won, more firms are throwing in the towel pre-emptively (i.e. WalMart). I expect we'll hear even more more capitulations in the next 1-2 months. Medium sized enterprises have cut down on DEI in an even bigger way out of necessity, as DEI is only possible because of big economic surplus (which large firms ceteris paribus have more of vs smaller firms).
As for the final holdouts, it's the fed govt and probably a majority of F500 companies. Trump in his first day / week of office will ban DEI at federal level. With Elon and Vivek's DOGE, this will be a multi-month / multi-quarter process as they dismantle DEI in all its forms within the federal level. Given how absolutely massive it is in our economy, this will 100% affect the private sector (no more DEI quota requirements for govt contractors and the like), not to mention providing a signal to the private world.
Trump will likely try to ban it in private sector but this will be a much slower burn with legal cases working their way thru. SCOTUS will see them go the right way. In addition, Republicans will pass bills on Congress to make DEI illegal. They'll also cut federal funding or tax Marxist college endowments at much higher rates to disincentivize DEI. We now also have way more support behind likes of Edward Blum and Starbuck who via a freed Twitter have a much bigger platform to call out DEI wherever they see it, and destroy it.
Will DEI still exist in 3-4yrs? Yes, but it'll be a shadow of what it was at the peak. If it's 60% of what it was at peak today, my guess is in a few years it'll be maybe 30-40% which is ultimately a far more meritocratic outcome
This will actually likely also be the case in the fed gov due to many existing labor law protections for federal employees, as well as collective bargaining agreements in place (some of which may be expiring soon).

That's true, but America has never really been meritocratic. Meritocracy has always been a myth, especially in banking. Unfortunately, DEI isn't the answer.
I guess it's less about pure meritocracy vs. pure DEI & nepo to your point, and more about moving to the right direction. A trajectory towards meritocracy is FAR better than a trajectory towards DEI & nepo

I would not be too concerned about diversity once Trump is done deporting illegal and legal immigrants. Unfortunately, deporting illegal immigrants is going to hurt lots of US businesses and their employees do not even compete for our jobs. From an white collar employment perspective, there is a better argument to be made to deport legal immigrants because they do compete for our jobs and our slots in target schools.
Agreed on DEI, but the whole point is to have a metrocracy - wanting to rid of your competition (aka legal immigrants) just shows you were never good enough anyways. Everyone should be on the same level playing field
