THE FINAL BOW: CURTAINS ON BROADWAY

Yes, the state of the economy is hitting us on old Broadway. With over-bloated budgets needed to put on a knock-off musical version of the latest schlocky Hollywood movie (Yes, I’m talking to you, Legally Blond), the curtain is coming down and the final dance is in place for these extravagant piece-of-shit productions.

Gawker reported that three major Broadway projects are going to be shutting their doors in the next few months, including such uber-hybrids of originality as Hairspray (a movie, made into a musical, which was again made into a movie), and the Monty Python swan- song-of-creativity, Spamalot.

Perhaps Broadway should consider the next Andrew Lloyd Webber extravaganza to be Recession: The Musical. It could be filled with dozens of singing and dancing Wall Street traders. Surely they can use the extra work. It could be bigger than Cats….and more real!
