Took a bit of time to work out the kinks but the board is better without constant obnoxious politics threading and overt troll spamming. The WSO team deserves credit for actively taking in feedback and fixing the issues that were apparent after the rollout.
A low moderation forum full of generally intelligent people was bound to be a disaster of toxic political junk that drowns out all other conversation. There are places for that, but I don't think a professional forum should be one. Killing all of that stuff has allowed for a broader range of off-topic discussions to flourish, including things that are interesting to those who aren't hyper-political. The bleedover issues on the IB forum seem better too - not nearly as much "deleted deleted deleted".
I agree. As long as it isn't political we should be able to talk about it here. Politics are bad, all that they do is divide people. I don't want to hear things that I disagree with.
Old Off topic was so bad, holy crap. The trolling was so unfunny and low-class it was insane (“omg, black people bad!!!1)

I was initially skeptical but I have to agree the quality of topics has improved. It’s a tough balance to strike and honestly any forum with light moderation gets that 4chan vibe too easily. There was a ton of heinous garbage being posted last year lol
there are certain good aspects of having a 4chan vibe - interesting ideas, ironic posting, it's more fun sometimes. however I do agree that the 'hateful' nature of a 4chan board is kind of a turn off, I can see both sides though and it's kind of complex because of the fact that irony exists and ironic hate can intermingle with actual hate. you could possibly even say that all forms of ironic hate are actually actual hate. what I'm getting at though is that it is more nuanced, just like everything else pretty much. like if you say something hateful as a 'joke' because you actually believe it that isn't the same as saying something 'hateful' as a joke, to be funny. Does that make any sense?
