The state of WSO has gone completely downhill

Don’t know if it’s prestige whored zoomers (I am Gen z dont ms) but these kids are on another level. Had a call with one kid and the first five minutes of the call I realized why he wasn’t employable let alone interviewable. Other than the constant prestige chasing, the mass amount of immaturity and shit posting makes me question the maturity lining up with the ages for these kids. First it’s Leafblower69, aka Muffin Man, unemployed in Toronto (can’t dox but he’s been blacklisted by pretty much every bank we all know who he is and have a copy of his resume which is why he’s not getting hired), then it’s LowCaliberTalent with his RBC US obsession. What ever happened to the golden days in 2010 with Jeffrey Chiang? Either that or I feel way too old at 26 to be using WSO.

There’s ups and downs, but yeah it’s filled with college students(like me). It might be over unc. What did the kid do in 5 minutes lol?

I tried mentoring a bunch of users, had the exact same reaction. Way too much focus on prestige to overcome something they had going the wrong way in their personal lives. No money in the world is going to make up for it, kids need to understand that.

The sheer unrealistic expectations that some huge bank has to  hire them... like.. why? there are thousands of dudes looking for the same job. nobody will end up getting it except for the top 1%.

I don't blame them for trying, but building your entire personality based on a (future) job isn't healthy.

Yep, the kid was too focused on prestige and where he should work versus doing the steps to get the job. These kids lack perspective on what would benefit them longer term. I was shocked to say the least as to the lack of maturity for some of these kids who are so hell bent on what their friends think of them versus getting work experience to start in a difficult market.

You mean kids who have grown up wholly immersed in influencer culture and brain-rotting social media have deep-seated issues with their self esteem that they try to cover up with the opaque, externally-validated veneer of prestige? You don't say...

To be fair, I grew up without social media and most of the people in my banking cohort were covering up self-esteem issues with the opaque, externally-validated veneer of prestige.  I also suspect social media has an aggravating effect... but it certainly existed before the rise of Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/whatever

I'm 29, and I feel your pain. Sad for the leaf blower kid that everyone knows him irl for something that bad. Even if your WSO identity is obvious, it's better to be absolutely anonymous when saying controversial stuff—except you're sure your future employability won't depend on people's short term memory of your conments
