Things To Do/See In Vancouver

Planning a trip to Vancouver in a few weeks, any West Coast American and Canadian monkeys got some recommendations for watering holes, unique things to do/see, places to eat? Generally prefer places that are transit-accessible.

I'm also interested in urban planning and architecture, so if anyone has recommendations for that, that'd be great.

Had Air Canada finally come in clutch and not fuck me in the ass (they really do suck) about changing a layover they messed up to 5 hours in Montreal.

Miku ended up being great, thanks for the recommendation

yaletown is the spot for bars + nightlife, but Vancouver is more of a city to go to for the beautiful nature (check out kitsilano beach)

I'm staying close to yaletown, but yeah I've heard that about nightlife there so mostly focused on exploring around, hitting up the various parks, beaches, and trails in the city. I'd rather not rent a car, but can if there's something in particular that'll be worth it, but I'm only going for 3-4 days so might not be worth it.

I probably wouldn't rent a car just because you will pay for parking and end up being out of pocket more than Uber.

Here are some decent spots I'd recommend trying out (in no particular order):

- Robba Da Matti

- Hydra Estiatorio

- Elisa

- L'Abattoir

- DD Mau Chinatown

- Lunch Lady

Besides this probably check out Tofino/Victoria/Squamish depending on what looks more appealing to you. Have a good trip.

All of the above restaurants are great recommendations, will throw in a couple more:

- Octopus Garden (not in downtown, but excellent sushi)

- Reflections (rooftop bar at the rosewood, bit of a scene)

- Cardero's (decent food, great patio in coal harbour)

- Bartholomew (good cocktails in yaletown)

- The Keefer Bar (really good cocktails with a Chinese herbalist tilt would recommend walking down the street to Bao Bei to eat after or before)

- Bar Susu

- would recommend heading to mount pleasant area as there are some incredible restaurants and lots of small breweries that are all reasonably within walking distance

Is Carderos good now? I had a really bad experience there 3x - 4x in a row.

Didn't get to check them out, but I tried Tom Sushi in Davie Village, the line was long as shit but it was well worth it

homeless people everywhere on the island .. you'll get a weird sense of "this is what the end of the world looks like"

was in Portland earlier this year and thought just that (although it was better than last year apparently)

Would add a few restaurants:

Joe Fortes - good seafood + has a rooftop patio

il giardino - Italian

Cioppino’s - Italian

Nightingale - sister restaurant to the more fine dining Hawksworth

Le crocodile - French

Vij’s - Indian

Would say the Granville island market is a semi- interesting place to go (sandbar has a good seafood selection). Also if I recall correctly one can bike from Stanley park all the way through kits to jericho beach and be mostly covered by bike lanes.

if you want to go to Miku make a reservation now, can be hard to get a table.

Was planning to hit up Vij's but didn't get a chance to, though ended up seeing Granville market and most of Stanley Park while peaking on shrooms. Miku was also great.

The restaurant Kissa Tanto is easily one of the best in Van, Italian-Japanese fusion spot in Chinatown. Would highly recommend for a unique experience.
