Thoughts on the $2 Billion Dodgers sale?
I'm by no means a valuation expert but I'm scratching my head at the thought that the Dodgers would be worth over $2 Billion, especially considering the Cubs sold for $845 million in 2009 and McCourt bought the team for $370 mil in '04 and hasn't exactly created a model of success in his tenure. Thoughts or explanation on how they could sell for this much?
I am dumbfounded as well. A few years ago the Yankees were the most valuable team in sports - a "billion dollar franchise." Now after running comps who knows what they are worth. Only $300M of the selling price is related real estate.
If I'm not mistaken there is some serious value being derived from the potential regional sports network. Fox has already offered $3b for a 17yr extension on their TV deal. It does have to make you seriously wonder though when a guy as smart as Steve Cohen is 30% lower than the $2.15bn winning bid....
