time to workout???

i usually do barry's/ cardio/ spin in the morning; i have been binging day in the life investment banker videos and no one seems to workout? i know for a fact that i get into the office circa 9:30 so i would have time, but i don't necessarily want to ask my colleagues if they workout (implies that they look like they don't).

would anyone be willing to shed light on this? i would even be open to switching to just running in the interest of time (60 min run min).

If someone is actually dedicated to working out then they'll make it happen (by giving up sleep). I've had summer interns who were student athletes make time to go to the gym early at 5/6am or after they signed off after midnight. Obviously that timing probably won't work for workout classes so you would need to have a gym routine. As a FT analyst it's harder to keep up a schedule like that vs. just over the summer, but still possible to get in a 30minute workout a few times a week if you work out once or twice on weekdays and both days on the weekend.

When I was a first year I was slammed so I didn't really workout at all (also valued sleep more), but started to find more time as a second year to workout for 45-60min 2-3 times a week because I got more efficient at the job and had first years I could have help out on stuff. As an associate I'm able to workout pretty freely in the evenings unless there's a live process that needs something done immediately. I'm not doing workout classes though, and those might be tougher to do because you have to schedule those and might need to cancel it or leave in the middle of a class at any moment due to work. If you're limited to shorter workouts then strength training or HIIT is probably better than just cardio because of the calorie afterburn. The M&I fitness article has pretty helpful tips on managing fitness while on the job.

When I first started in IB, I had an MD who swore he worked out every day of his life (ie 365 days a year for 20+ years), from An - MD. He said he would workout at 3am if needed and no matter what shape he was in. He was dedicated and he looked as much. This is an extreme example but, as others have said, it has to be a priority. Helps if you work on a reasonable team but often that isn't in one's control.
