U-Mich Financial Mathematics and Risk Management

Does anyone know anything about this program? It seems very interesting to me but I can't seem to find any good information on it other than this page.

Would this be a highly regarded program to take?

Thanks

It's not a separate program, just a concentration option available for a Math major. Really nothing special, as most schools have something like this in their undergrad math departments. Every math major will take the usual calculus sequence, linear algebra, diff EQ, real analysis, prob/stats, etc. Then for this concentration your electives will be financial mathematics courses, probably along the lines of stochastics, numerical methods, partial diff eqs and derivatives securities

I would recommend taking electives that interest you, so definitely look into this if you're considering finance. Upper level pure mathematics courses tend to be pretty abstract and are unnecessary unless you want to go into a phd program. Your best bet is trying to talk to older kids in the math department who have taken these clases

Financial Math at Michigan is a very rigorous program. That said, its graduates do tend to do well and can place in banking if they have any personality (most don't). We're hiring one intern for my front office group out of that program for this summer.
