Unconventional finance positions?

Monkeys,

What are the options like for someone to work or create atypical finance positions? For example, someone who isn't considering going down the corporate route yet still wants to work with investments and manage portfolios. Is it possible/legal to start your own equity research website and write your own reports in return for a paid subscription or become a financial advisor who works location independent off their computer? What is the basic legality behind this and is it remotely feasible? Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you looked into being a seeking alpha contributor? It sounds pretty similar to what you are suggesting above, albeit with a few differences. A friend of mine was a contributor and he would offer his reports on companies with associated buy/sell ratings. It seems pretty interesting, though looks to be competitive and the editors appear to weed out reports.

Thanks for the source. Just looked them up, for "high quality analysis of stocks that otherwise lack good research" they pay $150 for an article on "small-cap insight" and $500 for "small-cap top ideas". Looks like they also have a base payment of $10/CPM(1,000 page views). It appears like it could be an interesting side gig.

Glad I could be of some help. Maybe you can help in uncovering a new market inefficiency and end up retiring early from the lucrative returns :)
