Unlocking/Jailbreaking Iphone

Hey guys,

So I'm behind the times a little here and still have a BB (yup, shame on me). Was thinking about getting an Iphone and my friend said he had an old 4 that he would give to me. Only issue is that he is AT&T and I'm Verizon.

From the research that I've done, I found that you cannot unlock an AT&T Iphone and move it to Verizon because of the hardware of the phone. Can anyone confirm this? Would the play be to sell the 4 on CL/wherever and try and buy either a Verizon 4 or 4s with the money I get from the AT&T 4?

Thanks.

Yea, you cannot use an ATT iphone 4 with verizon even if you JB it b/c of hardware. You could do it with the 4s (all 4s' use the same hardware, but I doubt verizon will activate the phone). Your play to sell the iphone on CL or Ebay would probably be the best idea in this situation.

No... you can't. A phone that is on AT&T will be incompatible with Verizon's network. An iPhone 4s on AT&T cannot be converted to work on Verizon unless you gut the phone and swap out a good deal of the circuitry. AT&T uses GSM network technology while Verizon uses CDMA. Although there is a push to move to a 4GLTE standard, until that is complete, there won't be any network interoperability so just sell the phone on Craigslist or something.
