Upselling yourself when you’re unqualified
In the past, I’ve had to “grow into my roles” after talking myself up during interviews. Now that I feel more comfortable in my career, I can look back and laugh at some of the crazy things I said.
“Yes I’m very comfortable speaking with the C Suite and leadership meetings” when I said maybe five words total in client meetings with the CFO on mute. And can’t forget coordinating data room access with the PE Analyst I met once.
“I built dynamic models on my own regularly with little oversight” when I needed v137 for final final review with the VP before it goes to the MD.
“Oh yeah I totally stood up the finance function” when I was a corp dev analyst helping set up some stuff in NetSuite.
I’m curious what stories y’all have. No way you guys are 100% direct during interviews.
