Welcome to Winter Depression

The depression is coming. No, not the financial markets. The depression I'm talking about is the rapidly approaching onset of winter. We all love waking up to crisp, fresh, snow-covered parks and seeing the trees hang with icicles, how lovely.

But then... within a few days, all has turned to hell. The snow, once so enjoyable and spirit-raising has started to melt and become trodden with dirt into a grey slush which accumulates along pavements, at entrances and generally everywhere. Alongside that we also have the biting cold wind, amplified by the man-made wind tunnels of skyscrapers.

Whether you're in New York, London, Chicago, Frankfurt, Paris or any other city with a similar climate, it's only a matter of time before your best shoes look worse than a beaten up old rusty Honda, you come into work with a nose to rival Rudolf and you take the subway into work dressed in so many layers you can barely move. I, for one, hate winter. How about you?

Yep, this is why I moved to Hawaii.... Every year around this time I regret my decision to move back. Oh well...

Can't wait to escape again, hopefully for good.

Florida reporting in, 71 degrees and sunny.

Just another reason the northeast sucks fat dick.

You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake, son.

lol well Florida sucks skinny, wrinkly, old dick....

Kidding, completely jelly.

ConanDBullI love the winter. Only the strong survive.

Winter is coming

Remember, once you're inside you're on your own. Oh, you mean I can't count on you? No. Good!

Learned about the shoes during my first winter. I had some nice brown leather shoes. I don't know what happened, but they got pretty dry. And also I think the salt stained them. Did not last 2 months.

Going ConcernWinter? It's 65 right now in NYC. Global warming FTW.

Ya but it was 30s all last week, and suppose to be 60s all this week. Cold warm cold warm cold warm..

Yeah, that brings up a good point. The War on Winter is far from over. We may have had a few small wins over the atmosphere and so now we have 60s weather for half the month, but to win the war we really need to all do our part. The War on Winter won't be over until NYC has San Francisco weather all year round and the subway trains are replaced with canoes.

Yeah thank god for Global Warming, the weather in NY right now is solid, winter probably isn't going to come as long as I keep spraying my aerosol can straight at the sun. (It's an ancient mayan ritual)

LA feels just fine actually. Sunny, blue skies, high of 72- I did have to wear a 2/3 surfing this morning though...

Winter has to be the most depressing thing to touch upon London, (or as the rest of the world likes to refer to as winter, we Londoners refer to as most of the year). I speak of in this instance however the months November-February. The rain takes it upon itself to provide a sound track to your day; not in the form of pitter patter but the agonisingly faint sound of your socks squelching in your aesthetically pleasing but climate challenged shoes. A perfect complement to the thought this occurrence provokes: "Is anything that I'm doing with my life right at this moment in time really worth my woeful socks and numb feet?" Apparently there is, and you trudge on to university. This internal confliction is further compounded by the fact that when you are on the way home after university you suffer the visual onslaught of happy asshole couples on Oxford Street, whose broad smiles are further illuminated by the dazzling Xmas light display (this part is good). Maybe, you then say to yourself, if I had better shoes I could be one of those cool cats- upon whence (and to this end) I return home, jump on WSO and send off more apps... #1stworldproblems

milehighIt's cold here in Colorado, but I already have two weekends of skiing under my belt and it's not even Thanksgiving. Love winter.
