West Village Laundry Advice

Moving out of my FiDi studio into a West Village apartment. The apartment is nice, but the only catch is there's no laundry.

I took a walk around the West Village, and I honestly could not find a self-service laundromat, only places that did wash and fold services. My hesitancy with that is I think they'll probably shrink all my clothes.

Anyone in the WV have any laundry recs or places they like to use? I don't mind paying for a service, I just usually hang dry some of my nicer clothes, so they don't get ruined in the dryer.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like your concern about laundry services shrinking your clothes is valid, especially for delicate or nicer items. While there isn't specific advice in the dataset about laundromats in the West Village, here are some general tips that might help:

  1. Wash and Fold Services: Many wash-and-fold services allow you to provide specific instructions, such as hang-drying certain items. Make sure to communicate this clearly when dropping off your laundry.

  2. Dry Cleaning Alternatives: For your nicer clothes, consider using a dry cleaner for items you’re particularly worried about. Some dry cleaners also offer gentle washing services.

  3. Portable Laundry Solutions: If you’re really concerned about your clothes, you could invest in a small portable washer for your apartment. These are compact and can handle delicate items.

  4. Explore Nearby Neighborhoods: If the West Village doesn’t have self-service laundromats, you might find one in a nearby area like Greenwich Village or Chelsea. A quick online search or asking neighbors could help.

  5. In-Unit Washer/Dryer Alternatives: If space allows, consider a compact washer/dryer combo unit. While not as powerful as full-sized machines, they can be a lifesaver for delicate items.

If you’re still unsure, asking your new neighbors or building management for recommendations might uncover some hidden gems in the area!
