What do you like about finance?
What do you all like about working in finance? What inspires you to wake up every morning and start working? It has to be more than just ‘money’, otherwise that would be a bit depressing.
I like the ability to analyze financial statements to paint a clear picture of what is going on within a company and finding out the competitive advantage or passion in the company to find a path to increase profits and growth.
learning about how businesses work in various industries and markets
Dynamics are always changing. Except for Powell and the fed and their $120bn in purchases each month.
I like how we get to completely make up bullshit 15 year projections and then act like it is based on scientific principles rather than wild ass guesses. Makes me feel superior.

I like the variety of businesses we analyze, the amount of clients and people we meet, but also the smart colleagues around me.
the biggest charity you can do with money is strengthen someone’s livelihood by investing in / supporting / partnering in their business. That is what finance aspires to do, it’s about helping other people who need the help as best as we can possibly help them. I think Yale Prof Robert Shiller may have written about this in his book Finance and the Good Society.
Also the financial markets are avenues for growth for companies.
