What is NYC Like Right Now?

I'm about to move back on April 1st--what is the city like right now? Is it completely dead still? And probably my biggest concern, what is the crime situation like? Do people feel safe walking around outside in most of lower Manhattan?

I have felt safe essentially the whole time in Manhattan during the quarantine. Not sure if it just has to do with the area I live in (west village area) or that I don’t spend too many late nights out, so maybe I’m not the best to compare to.

But, yes, feels totally safe, but I haven’t been out much after dinner.

It doesn’t feel dead to me, the bar scene isn’t exactly hopping, but restaurants are mostly open, people getting together for drinks (at restaurant or friends apt), people are out, even Times Square gets packed.

I’m still only going out to eat at about 20-30% the frequency that I used to, but mostly personal comfort (visit older family frequently, etc).

Absolutely safe, never felt unsafe during all of COVID. I know crime went up in Manhattan but its nothing compared to some other cities in this country.
