What kind of female voice attracts you?

Gentlemen,

So after discussing this with some girlfriends, I'd like to take a poll. What do you think is an attractive voice in a female? Clear, bell-like voices or smoky, deeper voices or something else? Or do you not notice this at all? (My boyfriend apparently doesn't, for example.)

As a woman judging a man's voice, I immediately fall in love with well-modulated baritones and any kind of crisp, educated accent, e.g. BBC English, Mid-Atlantic English, Indian British, etc. Think Benedict Cumberbatch melting as I speak... But yeah: low pitch, deep voice, educated accent, and I'm there.

Also, how much can a voice attract you? Would a beautiful voice make up for a plain face?

Penelope Cruz. Chick could look like George Soros and I'd still follow her around like a lost puppy with that voice.

Baby you're the perfect shape, baby you're the perfect weight. Treat me like my birthday, I want it this way and I want it that way. It makes a man feel good baby.

One thing I've come to realize:

Ugly and/or fat females have a really nice voice over the phone.

Good looking model built like females have a weird male sounding voice over the phone.

Do not get fooled.

This is the sickest truth in the world. An HR lady played me like a fool because of this.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

I have noticed this in person once or twice. I have an acquaintance who is obese (though I wouldn't call her ugly - her obesity is in hourglass proportion and her face is very pretty) and she had a very attractive and feminine voice.

I have a close friend who is drop-dead gorgeous and looks like she should be on Calendar Girls, and her voice repulses me: Valley Girl accent, nasally, and just not fun to listen to.

What is an educated accent? Surely you are not one of the foolish people who believe that an accent, particularly a British accent, is any indication of intelligence?

So you're saying when you hear that Louisiana draw you don't immediately think of a Rhodes Scholar?

I don't immediately think anything. Intelligent people don't make unfounded assumptions. Now, I can anticipate the retort about generalization and certain stereotypes. But it is always better not to make an unnecessary assumption than to be wrong. Question for you- what exactly does a Rhodes Scholar sound like? Answer: Can't tell. It's an international competition that draws from all parts of the world. No matter what they sound like, they are likely pretty smart. For intelligent people, it is the substance, not style or accent, that matters. Remember, President Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar and I can still hear his drawl.

Here, the author heavily implied that the British accent inherently indicates a high degree of intelligence. I think that suggestion has no basis in fact. Are you going to defend her assertion?

This is why I specifically said BBC English. I have a second home in Manchester so I'm definitely not the "cockney is posh!" American suburbanite! :)

An educated accent varies depending on the country the person is from, but one thing they all have in common is that they enunciate VERY clearly. Which is nice.

Riddle me this then- I come from the Midwest, I am educated, I enunciate very clearly, and yet I have no accent. I speak unadulterated General American English. My point is that an accent cannot, in and of itself, be "educated". If you want to say, educated people enunciate- fine. Or 'I like a British accent spoken by someone who enunciates'- okay. But "educated accent" is a nonsensical phrase.

I sat behind Penelope Cruz on a flight to LA about 7-8 years ago. To say that seeing her face in real life was disappointing would be a colossal understatement.

I hate when real life gets in the way of my fantasies... this is the second time that's happened now (the first being my fiancee)

I grew up in India and went to an old boarding school that the British had established during the empire. Our teachers were old Brits with Cambridge/Oxford degrees who stayed behind . Consequently , I have a mildly British sounding accent - and tried to Americanize it when I came to the US for college. Only to have girls tell me they preferred my old accent. I find it odd that citizens of the world's most powerful nation have inferiority complexes about their accents. What insecurity

You shouldn't have Americanized it. Indian-Brit (which is the nickname I give it) is super hot. Speaking as an Indian American myself. ;)
