What single instance made you lose all respect to your parent(s)?

I hold zero respect for my mother, zero. I appreciate her for raising me, but you can't deny the truth. Gold digger, attended two shitty non-targets, made (literally) 30k a year as a commissioned financial planner in the affluent area I grew up in where literally every other mother/father was an engineer, doctor, or high-level manager. I'm sure it led to our family looking absolutely retarded when she conversed with other fellow parents like the uneducated, unethical person that she is.

Glad I'm out of the household though, it was pretty toxic growing up. When I got to the age of awareness that my life was actually pretty shitty, regardless of my childhood income level, the endless desire to get out and achieve financial independence so I would never have to cross path with my mother again was a driving force in my performance in high school.

I mean I can feel the frustration not coming from a great & steady background like most people on here do, but hating your parents won't really solve or change any thing. Ya feel?

Totally agree. I've tried to reflect upon this hatred but couldn't allow myself to come to a medium - my solution is just to cease all communications and remove my mother from day-to-day interactions.

The post doesn't match the title.

You're looking for a single incident, but you just described basically your entire upbringing?

I would say, don't blame your mother for "two shitty non-targets" and a "low" salary. Just realize that most people are trying to do their best, and their best might not be your best. Gold digging is a separate issue.

I feel you though. I think most reach a point (as an adult) where they realize that their parents are just people, and as a child you know more than them.

Oh my god all your posts annoy me, especially this one. I hate every pore of you.

Just wanted to add -- I respect the hell out of my parents. They cared enough about me to want me to work hard and succeed, and were overwhelmingly proud when I did. That's always been enough for me. They've always been hard workers who encouraged me to be the best I could while never forgetting our family and our past. I hope to be as good of a father to my kids (when the time comes) as my parents were to me.

Have some goddamn respect boss, how can you shit on your mom for going to a non-target? You're no better than anyone else. I think you have some sort of dissociative disorder. Fuck off for good.

Dayman?

Here we see the naive, immature bluster that only a young and inexperienced man can have in full display. Take it in, ladies and gentlemen. When michigan encounters the first profound life-altering failure that he can only attribute to himself and of course, after his balls have dropped, we'll all need to be there to prevent him from jumping. Gird yourselves.

My parents never finished high school and did not have some high paying job or hugely successful business.

I will never lose respect for them because if it wasn’t for them wanting me to have a better life, I’d probably be flipping burgers somewhere.

Don’t be so quick to write your mother off. Ofcourse, there may be things that happened not mentioned in your post which we don’t know about.

Did your mom physically abuse you?

Did she not support your education?

Did she starve you?

Did she constantly mock you and insult you?

What the fuck does it matter what sort of job she has?

Talk to one of those kids who grew up in a third world country, whose parents have zero education, yet worked hard in labour to provide as much as they could for their kids.

Gtfo of this forum you trash bag.

My current conspiracy theory on michigan is that he/she/it is a journalism major at some SJW university and they/xe are working on a hit piece against financial professionals. michigan is "undercover" as a stereotypical tech bro and trying to stir the pot to get people to say ridiculous things, and then planning to compile these quotes in xer article.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

Good thought, but no way. Michigan doesn't display the outrageous narcissism and delusions of grandeur. Monaco's style is to ask high school level philosophical questions as provocatively as possible in the title, and then answer it with a mix of poor logic and nihilism in the style of a long-form suicide note. But at least he seems to understand the concept of nuance. Michigan, on the other hand, just seems to suffer from too much certainty in his ridiculously simplistic worldview. Michigan doesn't yet see half the world; Monaco at least seems to see it all, but can't cope with it.

This has been my assumption for at least a year now wtih any post asking a super random, meaningless question about nothing, like “what type of car do you drive” or “what wallet do you use” or “how often do you visit your parents?”

Yeah or just straight marketing. Reddit has gone completely downhill because every post is marketing something or is some fringe view that brigades its way to the top.

I lost respect for your mom when she didn’t go through with the abortion.

Seriously, what the fuck is this shit doing on this site.

No respect for her because she attended NON-TARGETS???

What the fuck man?

Was it her fault no one told her she needed to go to a target to get a a good job or what if she couldn’t afford it?

This is life, be happy and respect people who do not want to go into investment banking and just want a simple life, otherwise if everyone wanted it we would all be screwed because it would be even more competitive.

That’s why I do not disrespect anyone who is majoring in something one may find “stupid” or is going to community college, you don’t understand other people’s lives.

all respect for your parent(s) Also your example wasn't a single instance

I'm so sorry your mother went to non-targets what a disgrace! Neither of my parents finished college and I love them both anyways because I'm not a piece of shit social striver. You'll stop being miserable when you do the same.

It's incredibly sad that your respect for the people who raised you is so directly correlated to bullshit status things like her salary and the universities she went to.

Given that you are what your parents raised you to be, or what their genetics formed you into (whether you are a nature or nurture person), to not respect them is to not respect yourself.

I actually could tell you my own experience here and give you a very good reason for losing all of my respect for one parent. It´s a story many can emphasize with.

Instead, I´ll just say: Shut the fuck up OP, nobody gives a shit.

I’ve seen a lot of trolls in my time and this without question is one of the best. You told a truly riveting tale centered around upbringing, which everyone has an opinion about today. It was kinda well written, insightful, and I want to believe it. Sir, I would like the opportunity to be your mentee. I tip my cap to you for the best troll ever on WSO, even topping theaccountingmajor loser last year.
