What the hell is up with cars revving their engines at 2am every night in NYC?

Sometimes it sounds like a Fast and the Furious movie is being filmed outside my window. My street isn't a bustling street either. Is this a problem all the time? Or just the summer?

I think it depends on the neighborhood or even street, my area is fairly quiet, you can't even hear any car at night.
The younger me was heavily involved in street racing, we even built a SMS server back then to distribute information and guide races away from inner cities, to make it safer for everyone. We normally met in defunct business parks or commercial areas.

People still do it in the NYC suburbs. I cannot stand the rich punk kids who live in my area. A lot of them text and drive too while speeding on local roads. Seen a few stop abruptly after going 50-60 miles per hour to send a text.... with traffic behind them.

But honestly cops don't really care at all around here in affluent areas. You can walk around with open drinks in my neighborhood and they wouldn't bat an eye.
