What would ya'll do

Wanted some opinions on my current situation....

Our house was robbed Monday by two individuals (College campus bordering a very sketchy city) and over $3,000 of our shit got taken (Making it a Felony). Long story short, the culprit was stopped later that night for marijuana possession and the officer found my backpack with almost everything in it (save for a $1,300 laptop that was my roommates, assuming that was in the other guys backpack who got away.) So I got all my shit back, but like I said my roommate lost his laptop.

What my predicament is I don't know if I should go through with charging this individual with home invasion (which is what the charge would be). I got all my shit back and this individual is incredibly sketchy and most likely to be gang affiliated, which raises safety concerns seeing as they know where we live, but at the same time I want this fucker in jail so it doesn't happen to someone else. I think my roommate is going to charge him due to his laptop being permanently gone, but like I said I really don't know if I should or not. If anyone has been in this situation or has any advice, it would be really appreciated.

Obviously I am not going to allow WSO to completely make a decision for me, as some of you may think, I am just curious to get as many viewpoints as possible to weigh any options I have yet to think of.

Thanks in advance.

I'd still charge him. Do the crime, pay the time! Also, you could get Shotgun house protection. I've heard that it works very well in Detroit.

Also, house/renters insurance.

Haha this place isn't too far off Detroit. I was definitely going to look into renters insurance, but have never heard of shotgun insurance. Sounds interesting.

Obviously I want the dude to pay for his crime, but from the looks of his facebook page and criminal record, he's been in and out of jail numerous times. Seems as if he has nothing to lose, and I would rather not be the one to push him over the edge haha. Food for thought though I guess.

It's not shotgun insurance. It's shotgun protection. It's a one time upfront fee, and then after that only a couple dollars for every time you need to use it. So in the end it's actually a fairly reasonable price. It can be purchased at almost any sporting goods stores in the Metro Detroit area.

If he's getting charged with a felony, it's likely he'll be in jail for a little while longer, which would give you enough time to move to a different house, or purchase a shotgun protection plan.

Will be in the house for another 4 months, then switching to a New House a few streets down for senior year. If I was a senior, this would be no concern at all (besides the fact that they may have recorded my home address from my drivers license, because my wallet was stolen too, before my backpack was recaptured), but seeing as I have one more year left here, I'm a bit skeptical.

Do you really think anything will happen? If you're that concerned, don't press charges..not really worth you being stressed out. Dude definitely deserves to be charged though.

By the way, if your friend is pressing charges anyway, won't the same concerns apply to you too? In that scenario, may as well charge as well, right?

the SOB was lucky enough to get away without a bullet in his ass, so a home invasion charge seems like he is getting off with a slap on the wrist.
