I agree, I think they should be good to make the playoffs, they'll eventually turn it around. Come playoff time though, they've beaten buffalo and baltimore on the road, but this is the worst version of the chiefs in some time whereas the other two are looking pretty good. I don't feel comfortable saying they'd beat Baltimore or Buffalo on the road right now

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the Kansas City Chiefs are likened to Lazard in the investment banking world. They are described as a tough, consistent team that works their analysts to the bone and consistently delivers solid results year after year. Despite the challenges and doubts, they remain a proud and resilient franchise, always in the mix for top performance.

The sentiment aligns with your point—until someone truly dethrones them, it's hard to count them out. Their history of consistent success and ability to adapt keeps them competitive, much like Lazard's position in the financial world.

I think that they should rest Mahomes all of next year, tank, load up on young talent, and shed existing bad contracts, then go for Act 2 of Mahomes' career starting 2027. This gives you 2 years to find a successor for Andy Reid, who is getting old. Maybe you have a friendly transition where Reid stays on in a more limited play design and mentorship capacity.

Rushing Mahomes back next year would be a big mistake.
