You can only have guests over who live in NYU housing. There’s security at every entrance but you can try sneaking people in at the risk of getting kicked out. I’d still do NYU housing again since it’s a lot more affordable than paying market rate in good neighborhoods

Or get a hotel if you want to bring someone over for the night ?

Do you know how much hotels cost in Manhattan?

Unpopular opinion here but would a place in Brooklyn or Queens not be better for the summer? You’ll still be close to Manhattan but can get something better for the same price. Don’t go too cheap though last summer I rented a room for 800 bucks. Do not recommend.

NYU dorm doesn't allow guests right now (I think that is just a lingering covid policy though? didn't used to be true, might be gone next summer) but putting that aside, still the best value for your money by FAR

If you don't want to do dorm Airbnb is the other option, but will be $3-5k+ per month per person, recommend locking down as soon as you can as places book quickly.

As an intern I'd prioritize getting housing where you can, it's not easy to find. Stay below like ~80s on UES and UWS all the way down to FiDi if you want a true "border". most of manhattan is very safe, transit access is the bigger program so become friends with google maps. ideally just 1 subway ride to the office (no more than 20-30 min, no more than 10 min walk to the subway station, no transfers is a great commute). you can Uber around town if you want to go out on weekends but it's not fun to be taking 3 subways to work or walking 1.5 miles in July to the subway

and during the summer figure out what neighborhoods you like best, spend some free time there and you will have actual choice of neighborhood come full time

Honestly I've been putting people onto the Hunter College Brookdale dorms (they open apps in April ish to apply) -- they're located at 25th and 1st ave and only cost $800 per month. There is no A/C but just buy a fan and these rooms are singles so that's great
