Why didn't Mitt Romney flip flop on his Mormonism?

He flip flopped on just about everything else. His Mormonism definitely hurt him with the evangelicals down south and was one of the biggest talking points of his campaign. Why didn't he dump it?

Because once he was out of the primaries there were no opponents left who would sink low enough to make it an issue.

But the idea that lack of evangelical support cost him the race is false. Evangelicals made up 27 percent of the election, a record high. They voted 79-21 Romney (the same as Bush in 2004 and higher than McCain in 2008). Truth is, the people that that voted for Obama, for the most part, didn't care that Mitt Romney was Mormon.

It's kinda funny to think that there was only one Protestant Christian in the Pres/VP race, and the "Religious Right" voted against him. I guess that means a Republican anything beats a Democrat anything. So much for principles.
