Why is everyone suddenly an expert epidemiologist

If this pandemic has revealed anything, it is both how wholly unprepared the US is for a public health crisis and how fucking stupid and impressionable, all the while completely self-important, its citizens can be.

Why tf does anyone need an entire pallet of toilet paper? Why the meltdowns over food supply? People are straight up enjoying the pandemonium because they have nothing better to do since they’ve already burned through everything on Netflix.

Why tf are all of these able-bodied people hooting and hollering for testing? What are you going to do with the results? Receive some nonexistent antidote? Just stay tf home and stop touching yours and other people’s faces ffs.

If anything, I hope mass testing DOES come to fruition, but only to reveal that the mortality rate is actually a fraction of that being shouted from your TV screen so that people can stfu. Mortality is higher in the old (Italy) and those with compromised lungs (tobacco-loving Italy and polluted ass China), so estimates are probably way overblown as is. Then again, it’s also higher in sickly people, such as those who are obese +/- diabetic, aka MURICA, so who the fuck knows. But you can’t compare the situations in China (arguably one of the dirtiest, most cramped environments in the world where covering one’s mouth to cough is unheard of) and Italy (old people, shitty ass healthcare system, also cramped) to the US, although we do win on Doritos Locos Tacos consumption and the subsequent future need for extra resources to care for these land whales

I don’t even want to imagine what would happen if an outbreak of an actually severe disease were to occur

Don’t know what the point of this rant is but I’m just annoyed by the American public and how everyone seemingly has a very loud opinion on this outbreak while lacking basic knowledge of, well, anything.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk
