Wisconsin Passes Anti-Collective Bargaining Bill
WSJ: Wisconsin Republicans Bypass Democrats on Collective Bargaining
The Reps got around the quorum by 'stripping' the fiscal elements of the bill, which means they can pass it with a lower quorum.
I'm not sure how the parts of the bill they passed doesn't count as 'fiscal' especially given this quote:
"Tonight, the Senate will be passing the items in the budget repair bill that we can, with the 19 members who actually do show up and do their jobs," said Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, a Republican, in a statement.
"Those items include the long-overdue reform of collective bargaining needed to help local governments absorb these budget cuts," as well as increasing the amount of money public employees will have to pay for their pensions and health care premiums.
Regardless, Dems are ticked and claims it violates some open meeting law whatever that may be.
Just for fun, here's MSNBC's story on the matter... I think it's funny that it sounds a lot more accusatory than WSJ's:
.
THANK GOD!!!
And you're right Nobama, they passed the non-financial measures today so the increases in how much they pay for their benefits will come later. But the unions already agreed to it before, so it will probably pass.
.
hooray for America!
the headline made me clap with joy, and i'm not even american.
Democracy only counts when your team wins. Go America!
Anyone know what the open meetings law is?
Oh great, I can't wait to hear all the bitching about this on campus tomorrow.
I literally had an orgasm while driving to NJ when I read this. Jesus cried a tear of joy when this happened.
Satan has lost this round!
awesome. hopefully more states follow their steps
Idaho already did something similar. Yay.
Well Ant, I did have an orgasm when I saw this on Fox news. Problem is, I was at the gym on the elliptical! ooops. +1 for the good guys
^^^hahaha !
The open meeting law dictates that at least 20 members of hte senate have to be present for a vote. Go cry me a fucking river that they got around it when you arent doing your fucking job.
Yeah, but if you're going to rules lawyer the shit out of the system, at least have the foresight to do it right. Bipartisan criticism just in case someone is unsure.
I was just answering someone elses question about what "meeting law" was.
HAH!
On Feb. 17 Mark Miller undid 234 plus years of American democracy by fleeing the state to Illinois.
