Work Laptop Recs, 32gb ram required?

Hey guys,

Considering getting a new laptop for work. Leaning towards the carbon x1 gen11, base model with I5 chip and 16gb ram. Was considering then upgrade to i7 and 32gb ram for another 500 bucks - is it worth it to have 32gb of ram for work/excel? Also open to suggestions for similar laptops for the price, I heard the dell xps was good.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah I was surprised too.. it’s a bb which makes it even crazier -  the people who are in my class said they used their personal ones as summer interns as it just connects virtually to the desktops at work. Super confused but at least I get to keep everything I buy

You're misunderstanding your work setup. I probably work at your firm but you have a desktop that stays at your work desk, and you can use any laptop to connect to it via Citrix.

You don't need that much RAM, unless you're planning on doing some heavy modelling with infra models for fun. All you should worry about regarding laptop specs is (1) having dedicated PGUP,PGDOWN,HOME,END,etc buttons (2) WiFi 6 card (3) High resolution screen (4) Intel processor and two fully-fledged USB-C ports so you can display to two screens natively.

People generally use the tech stipend for monitors and desks.

Last I heard Goldman still wasn't giving out laptops which is laughable overall- doesn't make much sense from an InfoSec standpoint to me but that was their policy
