Worst Summer Intern Screw-Up Ever?

Mod note: Blast from the Past - "Best of Eddie." This one's hilarous

This is one for the books. In what has to be an attempt at epic trolling (or a bid for a job on the Howard Stern Show), a summer intern at the NTSB is behind the imbroglio at KTVU after the station erroneously identified the Chinese pilots of doomed Asiana flight 214 as Capt. Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk, and Bang Ding Ow. You can't make this stuff up.

Now I certainly don't want to make light of a tragedy, but c'mon. Who's minding the store over at KTVU? I mean, this is some straight up Ron Burgundy shit right here. It really makes you wonder whether the news anchors really are just automatons who will read anything that crosses the teleprompter.

The station published an almost immediate apology (the same anchor who originally read it apologized moments later and threw the NTSB under the bus). For their part, the NTSB released a statement saying, "Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet, a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft."

So, is this the worst screw-up in summer intern history? Or is this kid just an epic troll? I'm pretty sure he or she won't be getting a full time offer.

Successful troll is successful.

Hilarious

"I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature."

Asiana Airlines is apparently suing both the NTSV and the TV station...apparentlty they did not appreciate the trolling.

And for that purpose they have already retained renowned Bay Area attorney Wi Sui Yu. In all fairness there is clearly Sum Ting Wong with the fact checking process at the TV station. You can't just blame such a massive live TV blunder all on Sum Yum Gai.

Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep.

LOL!

Epic Intern troll... he deserves some credit, that took balls. I love how the anchor said all the names as calm as ever.

It is of interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned English -- up to fifty words used in correct context -- no human being has been reported to have learned dolphinese.

Future Employer of Intern: "So you're the intern that trolled the nation with fake names of the Asiana pilots?"

Intern: "Ya, it was an immature move. I realize how grave a mistake it was and that was wrong on many levels. I assure you I am a completely different person now."

Future Employer: "You got balls kid, and I admire that. Not only will I give you the job, but I'll fast track you for promotion. Our company needs people like you."

Tosh.0 should hire the intern as their new writer ASAP. This is exactly the brand of low-blow shock jock humor that appeals to their loyal frat boy viewer base, except this prank is funnier and more clever than 99% of the stuff Tosh has put on the air over the years.

reminds me a little of how george costanza got his job with the yankees, or peter gibbons his promotion in office space
