Writing a Book...Who Wants to Do It?

Some finance books such as Monkey Business inspired generations of bankers. It also repulsed a whole other portion of the population (me included) but that’s another debate.

I’m currently writing a finance book and I wanted to see the number of people that would like to do the same.

If you had one year off what topic would you choose? Finance or something else? And would you write your career story mixed with fiction or something technical?

Even though I hate fiction, I would write a fiction book. Something that women cling onto like the girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy.

You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake, son.

I think I have a couple of good books in me already. Fiction and non-fiction.

Fiction is a lot more interesting and impact-full. Think of all of the most influential books ever written. Most are fiction, e.g. Homer's iliad, Plato's The Republic, Orwell's 1984, The Torah/Bible/Koran, etc... All fiction.

What I would really love to do is to make a couple of independent films. One fiction and one documentary. I kind of have the idea for both. Will probably do it with my next decent bonus (one can hope).

I'm writing a non fiction book about finance. Something a technical in corporate finance. It doesn't make me a poet or a dreamer but it's nice to get up every morning and write for one hour before going to work!

Hey,

I have recently published a book that is on finance, "To Become an Investment Banker" (by Heather Katsonga-Woodward) and I wrote it on the job. I was in Derivative Sales so my hours weren't killer. The book is technical mixed in with my own experience and my interaction with others that I met. As I am a rare breed in banking - a black woman - I found it necessary to get it on paper. Glad I did.

The year before that I wrote a fiction book about bankers trafficking women from Africa. Got it professionally edited and will rework it early next year to get it market-ready. I enjoy writing so it's something I do a little of everyday. I have 5 blogs!!
