Writing Skills Are Important...Advice for Anyone Who Will Listen

I am not the most proficient writer but I can tell if someone else's documents are poorly written. I have never worked on the sell side but I would assume you need to have good writing skills to be pumping out research reports on a regular basis. The buy side people do not have to write nearly as much for their jobs. Not only should your formal documents be well written but I would recommend making sure your emails are well written. When you send an email to someone, that person may make assumptions about you based on the text you have just sent them. A poorly written communication, one you may not think is very important, could have a negative impact on your career. I was a terrible writer until grad school, mostly due to a lack of interest in English as a kid. With that said, I learned quite a bit from my wife, who is an attorney and has always had to compose long and detailed court documents. Of course, she has trouble with simple subtraction, haha.
