WSO Competition

Speaking of WSO competition in our marathon thread...if any of you guys know the founders of any of these former sites I'd love an intro...I would love to buy and recycle some of their best content:

  • The Bullpen Report (way old but hilarious...like The Onion for bankers)

  • BankersBall.com -- looks like they gave up in late 2009...

  • LeveragedSellout.com -- I know Amit but haven't been able to work something out with him just yet. Trying to get him to make a dramatic return on WSO.

  • Dealbreaker.com - I met with Bess Levin to try and get her to write for WSO but she "didn't want to start to build a website from scratch"....ouch! I then proceeded to tell her we had more traffic than Dealbreaker but she didn't seem to care. Now she is holding up the sale of DB...well bc she IS dealbreaker

Some others that are more friendly:

  • Ibtalk.com which changed to nicube.com and pretty much died as a result (was largely UK)

  • wikijob.co.uk -- I've talked with these guys a few times and they were interested in buying WSO. They basically filled the ibtalk.com void but still are largely dominated by accounting firms...actually monetize very similar to WSO

  • Mergers&Inquisitions - I know Brian personally and am a big affiliate for his financial modeling training course which kicks ass

Any of you guys know of any other finance blogs / communities out there I should be aware of?

Thanks,
Patrick

Remember that threat CompBanker threw up around Christmas, the one in which he talked about taking WSO to the next level with devoted areas for technical type content, frequently asked questions, etc.? Well he compared WSO and M&I at some point to which I responded with something along the lines of "If WSO were to implement this, or something similar, it would easily be able to overtake M&I and eventually make all of the users that use that site migrate here for the information they could get there since the more detailed info is already on WSO." Well Brian came on and was essentially like "LOL happy you so silly I ain't goin no where etc etc etc."

haha, yes I remember now. Unfortunately, given JDO and other more pressing shit like fixing the SPAM flter, that "advanced FAQ" has again taken a back seat....that shit is a HUGE job and I really want to do it bc I agree with Comp that it would be useful. It is just something that takes a lot of planning / structure and then brute force to execute it. Still on my list though.

Maybe if you gave us a list of the shit you wanted included, some of us could get something done, or at least started.
