WSO Weekly Wrap-Up (5/7-5/13)

In case you missed them, here're some of last week's most popular topics:

AMA - Ex-back office, ex-research analyst, credit trader
Post By @uussaaa"

I networked a lot with the credit research desk. After I received a buyside research job offer, I told the desk and they found me a spot instead. I have been on the trading side for six months and currently, I am revising for the CFA exams.

Summer 2016 Shopping Guide for a Business Wardrobe
Post By @GTMonkey"

The purpose of this post is to create an organized place where I have found nice deals for a business wardrobe. What kind of fashion do you guys bring to the office? What is your typical day to day outfit like? What is your go-to outfit? I do not want to read through the comments and find some hotshot high schooler giving me flack for not wearing Versace.

Car lease recommendations - First Year Analyst
Post By @ap2A_8"

I am starting as a first year IB analyst very soon. I am living with my parents and besides paying the bill for my cell phone, I do not have any other costs to consider. Is it outlandish to lease a new car (e.g. an Audi A4, 3 series and C class)? Otherwise, should I lease a Honda Accord?

Road to a Sovereign Wealth Fund
Post By @indexmatch"

I am curious about how people break into a role at a SWF. Does it matter which REPE firm you are at? How does the recruiting process work?

Working for a PE Portfolio Company
Post By @takenotes08"

Has anyone ever considered offering to work for a portfolio company in the hope of working your way up and getting hired into the PE firm once the company exits two to three years later? I feel like the operational experience and industry knowledge would be valuable to get on the partner track.

Importance of a Brand Name Firm on the Resume after First Round Interviews?
Post By @Entrepreneur100"

Is having brand name firms on your resume important for just being selected for first round interviews or does it play any other role as well?

If I expect to be graduating into a recession, how should I adjust my career path starting out?
Post By @throwaway1020"

Restructuring or Special Situation Funds may have booming businesses during a recession. Apart from that, which areas in finance will be good to jump into at the outset of a financial meltdown, or at least won't be significantly affected by such an event?

WSJ article - Banker's Worst Nightmare
Post By @sofib09"

Has anyone read this article? Unless you have a true business need to have sustained M&A knowledge and talent in-house, banks will be necessary in some sense. It will be interesting to see how banks respond to this; I doubt MM banks will encounter any issues.
