Commercial Banking to FP&A

Hello-

I figure it'll be no problem spinning the finance experience to an FP&A role but what else can I do to stand out when competing against other individuals who have FP&A experience in the industry?

I've been entertaining the idea of operations in my mind for several months, partly because I want to get involved in running projects and having some sort involvement in an organization. I really enjoy my finance job now and the analytical aspect, but I've been wondering could the grass be greener? Should I leave banking to get an MBA in an ops role?

I ran across a few FP&A roles and noticed that they listed project management and other operations related verbiage, which made me super stoked because it could be the nexus between finance and ops, a link between the familiarity and experience I have now with what I've been reflecting on for the past few months. I honestly daydream of taking charge of a group to enhance the current operations of my team and such but, that's not how this place works.

Any thoughts. Do you think my mind is on the right track in terms of how this type of FP&A role will function?

Just so we're clear I don't have experience working in high finance so this isn't an ez leverage of title to FP&A type of deal.
