Enterprise Tech to FinTech

About me: I work as an Enterprise Architect at a technology behemoth and have for about 2 years now. My job function is very much a jack-of-all-trades type of role where myself and a team have to pull together whatever the project may be. I find myself wanting to be closer to the markets, closer to finance and closer to the data. Ideally, the job would have a traditional finance business model but would require advanced technical skills in order to complete day to day work.

My questions: 1. What are these jobs called at the entry / junior level? 2. What are the names of the firms that do this type of work?

I know this question is as vague as can possibly be, but I'm looking for a starting point. More than that, I'm seeking WSO's opinion on what's hot and what they are doing.

Thanks

Hi OP,

This can be done. I was also at a technology behemoth before (Accenture). Try aiming for some Mobile Banking projects or other types of tech projects at large financial institutions. Learn on your own time. A mobile banking project will give you more exposure to customer data and you can tie that back into finance and marketing. Specifically mobile deposits/mobile payments/mobile loan applications and also give you some exposure to analytics ie what's the spending behaviors of the customers and how do you market credit cards or other financial products to them..

BTW, I wasn't saying just sticking to mobile banking. For example, some interesting projects I got to work with are an cloud based Asset Management application. the end users were asset managers and the cloud application allowed them to manage their investments/portfolio. the team was fairly diverse, from developers to a CFA (working as a SME) and it'll at least give you more exposure. Not sure if you're trying to aim for a true finance position or just stay in the fintech space.
