Finance outside of NY
Anyone can get an idea of working on Wall Street, but what is it like in other cities? Places like Stamford/Greenwich, Chicago, Charlotte, Houston, Asia, etc.
Things curious to know: Day to day Getting started When you head home Atmosphere of the office and superiors After work activities
Anything else is helpful just want an idea from any and everyone that knows.
Eastern Europe and Central Asian region, small office of a big multinational MM investment bank and brokerage; doing ER (generalist coverage) and IB (IPOs, DCM).
Work is usually 9:00-18:00, 2 weekends, usually staying till 21:00 when working on IB deals, otherwise till 18:00 with ER work. Our office closes at 21:00 and everyone should be out at that time.
The office is small and I am the only analyst responsible for my country at the office, we also have one VP and one MD here. I am working together with VP and send my models and reports to the head office in another country to be checked by seniors. VPs and MDs are usually busy with bringing in clients and getting deals. A lot of BO functions are performed by the head office in another country, as well as the coverage of the US market. Other country offices cover their respective EECA region markets.
My work week looks like this: I come on Monday morning, have a weekly market research done by noon and sent to the investment advisors, have a lunch and playing mini golf with colleagues during the break, then go back to work. If I am not on a deal, I just screen if there are new financials or other info from the companies we are covering, and if yes, giving new info on those. If not, looking for new companies to initiate coverage, looking for not listed companies that have good perspectives to get listed, thinking about launching new products (it is a developing market, after all). On Tuesday morning I do a briefing with investment advisors about the new updates on the companies we are covering.
The work is very pleasant and interesting, and I never feel bored, and I actually see that I bring value.
Want to hear what the other folks are doing as I have no idea what it looks like in other places as well.
