Finance/Consulting and Pre-Med
I'm a pre-med junior majoring in Math at a (lesser known) Seven Sisters College. Though I definitely know I want to pursue medicine as a career, I'm a little unsure of the financial prospects given the recent changes to healthcare. I want to keep finance/consulting as a backup, and while I've heard that it is much easier for MDs and other grad degree holders to get hired by IB/consulting firms, I'm seriously doubting that my stand-alone math major will allow me to get admitted to top med schools. So I'm at a point where I'm wondering if it's possible to potentially secure a position in both industries by double majoring in Math and Biology, or if that just sets me up for failure in both. I've talked to my advisor (and some grad students) who suggested I major in a hard science (bio, chem, physics, etc.), and take difficult math courses on the side (I'm interested in math and don't want to give up that major at any cost) to impress med schools. Problem is, I'm not interested in majoring in a hard science and I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
