Is there a job that....

All,

I am hoping some of you may be able to provide me with some advice. After doing some soul searching I believe I would best be suited for a job that combines an aptitude for both technical finance and sales. I do not mind spending my time on the phone for leads and contacts (making calls is exciting to me), but would like to utilize my education and understanding for finance and the markets. And, IMO I think a stockbroker requires too little technical skill, please correct me if I am wrong. Could anyone possibly point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

oozz

p.s: entry level

Thank you for the suggestions. I will have to take a look into these career paths. Feel free to keep em coming.

@nutry: from what my research has tells me, sell side ER does the research not the selling, or am i mistaken? @durbanDiMangus: do you know where I could find more information regarding this type of career

I've done sell side ER and from my experience, senior sell side analysts spend 60-70% of their time in meetings/roadshows/phone speaking to clients. Even junior analysts get to call some small clients and pitch ideas. That is also a job of the sales force, but as a senior analyst you want to be close to your clients so you can build your reputation with the buy side.

Institutional equity sales does the job of amplifying the message and doing initial contacts with the client, but when a client wants a more in-depht look on a stock, the analyst has to be called. Also, when there was the publishing of a new report for example, the analyst had a list of some 50 clients that he would personally call to make them aware of the idea and discuss the thesis.

To synthesize, to be successful in sell side ER you have to be great technically (on finance and on your industry) and an even better salesman. Feel free to ask any further questions.
