Oil Tanker Start-Up

Now this might sound crazy, but one night I was having trouble sleeping and I got curious and started looking at what a used, mid sized ocean going tanker goes for. They are actually surprisingly cheap, for around 2MM you can get a decent looking ship. Now my question is, what would the barriers to entry for this hypothetically be? I am not educated at all in the shipping industry but it made me think, what are the barriers to entry into starting a shipping company- apart from the huge startup capital. Could an independent contractor of sorts even make money if they were able to hire a crew and raise the capitol?

Just a crazy idea that I wanted to hear what people think.
