Politics as an exit opp?

Hey guys, I'm currently a principal at a PE MF, and although the comp is pretty nice, I'd like to try something else for a few years.

I was thinking of running for senator in my home country (Canada), serving a couple of terms (4-8 years I think) and then going back to PE/M&A with my newfound expertise, especially for industry specific groups.

I have a convention and prestigious background for a politician (Oxford PPE) as well as a HSW MBA. I have the rolodex to fill up my war chest or whatever politicians do to win a running.

I'm willing to fork over about 3-6MM (usd) to fuck around as a senator or congressman for the next few years.

Anybody in a similar situation or know of someone who has been in a similar situation who can provide expertise? I have no family members currently in politics, if that's a disadvantage.
