Republican Candidate for President
Mitt Romney - Pros: Business experience, campaign experience, presidential looking, socially moderate, NOT a tea party candidate Cons: Mormon religion could hurt him in general election
Bachmann - Pros: None Cons: No experience, no intelligence, seems flaky (aka not a "professional woman"), tea party candidate
Rick Perry - Pros: Will get most of the Evangelical Christian vote Cons: Will get most of the evangelical christian vote, holds prayer session for America and thinks this will help the economy
Ron Paul - Pros: REAL Conservative, I actually beleive that he would do most of the things he says he would, isolationist Cons: Some of the things he proposes are very extreme and I am not sure of the effect (getting rid of the fed)
I think Mitt Romney is the only realistic candidate and has the best chance of beign able to actually improve the economy - I hope he comes out with some new ideas to boost the economy besides the same old "lower taxes" - growth is important, but unemployment is important too
Republicans will lose this cycle regardless of who runs
Solidarity: I have seen some people who have said that very thing, but I have seen absolutely no evidence historically or in reasoning of why people think that. Could you explain yourself?
GOP will take the senate and hold the house as long as they nominate a mainstream candidate (Romney). The Presidency will be harder to get, but it is definitely in play.
Obama is going to have the liberal super PACs run a nasty campaign against Romney and he will be blamed for rape and genocide in any small town Bain shut down factories.
As long as Mitt can give good logical answers that the American public will understand to why a PE firm has to close factories and lay off workers he will be very competitive in the race.
isolationist is a pro?
Let's be honest Romney isn't a conservative - the guy could run as a democrat. He's without out a doubt the best candidate from the Republican party. The rest are really a bunch of ignorant idiots. Especially Bachmann.
Ya, he's the best candidate to ensure Obama a 2nd term.
i take it you're liberal?
No I'm not a liberal. I've just had the opportunity to live and work outside the US for a good amount of time and realize what the republican party says is largely factually incorrect.
BTW I won't be voting for anyone in that party
I'll vote for Romney if he moves back towards the center after winning the Republican primary. I would potentially consider Ron Paul, because it would be one hell of a ride.
The closing factories question they gave Romney last night was bullshit.
NJ Governor Christie would be a refreshing entrant, if not only for his consistent ability to speak his mind to the media. Dude needs to hit the gym, though.
ROFL @ this topic every 4 years. There's only one non-RINO in play. If he was 20 years younger maybe by 2024 he could force his way onto their ticket. As things stand, it will be another big government guy...name's irrelevant.
Agree Midas i don't think any real change will occur, but i have a guilty pleasure for political horse racing. It is interesting and decent entertainment when the NFL is in off season.
This^^
I'll be writing in Ron Paul.

I posted this in another thread already, but when the National Review calls the candidates crazy you have a problem. You cannot be this ideologically stubborn and run an effective government.
You can't effectively run a government by spending it into bankruptcy. Tax increases will only lead to more spending. Only way the fiscally conservative will agree to a tax increase is to attach a law to it saying it has to go to deficit/debt reduction.
Dude,
China a country of 1.7 billion people will spend $91 billion in defense this year.
The United States will spend over $700 billion.
That's more than China, France, UK, Russia, Japan, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, Canada, Israel, United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Afghanistan (which is really again the US), and Poland combined.
You want to talk about fat?
I agree. I'm a Libertarian. No questions should be needed as to my beliefs. If there are, shoot'em to me.
The 10-1 question really made the candidates double down on their "No Taxes" positions. While I'm sure Romney T-Paw, and Huntsman were lying when they raised their hands(10-1 is a hell of a deal) they had to do it so they can frame the 2012 election the way they want to.
The Republicans are desperately trying to make the debate if you want higher taxes and more spending vote for Obama if you want lower taxes and smaller government vote for one of us.
This can backfire if Obama moves to the right on spending but keeps hammering away at tax breaks for the wealthy that could easily be gotten rid of.
The GOP cannot expect to win the middle while defending tax breaks for corporate jets and XOM while at the same time going after Medicare. The American people simply will not buy it.
I'm not - I do think people born into unfortunate positions or encounter tragedy should have help. And in my eyes taking care of sick elderly and poor people is more important than tax cuts for people making $1,000,000 to $1,000,000,000 a year. Oh and paying enormous salaries for 4 star generals in Europe still waiting for Russia to invade Poland and Germany again.
But - nothing wrong with libertarian views. Different than mine, but certainly not ignorant!
This is pretty funny. John Stewart on Ron Paul:

Republicans will loose the elections with that bunch of candidates... They all look like a bunch cut out for a circus...Sorry, gotta wait for the next generation of republicans in hopes that they'll be more intelligent than this bunch
Cris Christie!!!! WOOOOO
^ Christie and Paul Ryan might be entering. They certainly deserve a higher level of seriousness.
But she raised 72 kids!
