Stevens Institute of Technology

Hi,

I recently heard/read about Stevens Institute of Technology. WSO also advertises this school here. Does anyone on this board has any idea about this school?

I checked out their website, but it gives a very incomplete picture. Just curious to know more about the school, graduate programs, placements stats etc.

Thanks in advance for your input!

yup.. breaking into IB out of undergrad there proved to be extremely difficult for me (sent over 1000 emails, had 5 or 6 interviews, got one SA offer)

This question is on behalf of a friend of mine from India. He is looking to for a decent MS in comp. science program around nyc. I am not too sure about his career aspirations. He is a level 2 CFA candidate and has BE in Computer science from one of the top schools in India. He is more inclined towards tech side of the finance world. It would be great if you can recommend other schools around nyc for MS in Computer Science and give more details about Stevens. Thanks!

MIT and CMU are great, but they would be far from nyc. His cousin is in nyc and ok to share the place with him during the program. So, he can avoid accommodation cost if he finds a school around nyc. Princeton seems like a good option. Any other worth considering around the city?

True, but if you want a top-20 ranking, I'm not 100% sure you want New York:

Columbia is the highest ranking at 17- it's a good school for CS, but it's very expensive if tuition isn't fully covered by a TA/RAship.

COL in NYC before rent is going to be higher than COL in downstate IL with rent.

I highly doubt an MS in CS from Columbia will hurt you long term, granted I'm no expert.

It won't- it's an excellent degree, but my point is that $1000/month either gets you living expenses - rent in NYC, or it gets you living expenses + rent outside NYC. Low cost of living is a terrible reason to go to school in NYC. It would be like picking Fayetteville, AK for its politically liberal atmosphere.

CMU has an NYC campus, and the degrees it issues carry no distinction from its main Pittsburgh campus. I'm not sure if they offer CS MS's there or only MSCFs, but that may be another option to consider.

CMU is well known for its computer science program, but I never knew that they offer the program in nyc. That might work well. I have Princeton, Columbia and CMU on the list. Thanks.

I'm sorry, # 86 is the very bottom tier. Everything outside the top 100 isn't really considered a school for any distantly remote practical purposes in Finance and can thus be considered out of the running or unclassifiable (and thus undeserving of placement into a tier).

No, this isn't just me being a sarcastic or elitist asshole, this is how the system works and you all know it.
