2 years IB + 2 years PE to startup: Compensation expectations?

2nd-year generalist PE associate in NYC considering leaving for strategic finance / bizops at a high-growth software or AI company.

The biggest thing I’m trying to get a realistic read on is comp, especially the cash side of things.

For someone coming out of PE at this level, what cash comp are people actually seeing in the market right now?

Would be especially helpful to get recent data points with:

  • company stage
  • role/title
  • total cash comp
  • equity, if known (and high levels of vesting schedule)

Mainly looking at Series B through pre-IPO companies in NYC.

I’ve seen wildly different numbers thrown around for these roles (people lumping in equity with cash etc), and postings tend to have huge ranges, so I’m trying to understand what is actually realistic versus noise.

If you’ve recruited for the move, would appreciate any real comp examples.
