ADPF
Anyone have any insight on the PE or infra team at Abu Dhabi Pension Fund? I have heard of the soveriegn wealth funds in the region but never this pension. They have hired some heavy hitters recently - the new head of PE led Asian PE deals at CPP - seem to be scaling a lot and recruiters have been trying to poach a bunch of people from the FoF I work at (myself included).
Any clue on comp, work culture, progression, life in AD, how it compares to the SWFs in the region?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, there isn't specific information about the Abu Dhabi Pension Fund (ADPF) in the provided knowledge base. However, insights on similar institutions in the region, such as sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) and Canadian pensions, might provide some context:
Compensation: SWFs and pension funds in the region generally pay well, especially for senior roles or those with international experience. However, they may not offer carry or performance-based bonuses like traditional PE shops. Instead, they might provide other long-term incentives, such as shares or perks.
Work Culture: Middle Eastern funds, including SWFs, often have a unique work culture. While they can be lucrative, they may not operate as meritocracies, with local hires often prioritized for promotions. This could result in slower career progression for expatriates. Additionally, the work environment can involve large deal teams, which might dilute individual responsibility.
Progression: Career progression in the region's funds can be challenging for non-locals. For example, at some SWFs, senior roles are often reserved for locals, and expatriates may find it difficult to rise up the ranks.
Life in Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi offers a high quality of life, with modern amenities and a relatively safe environment. However, it may feel isolating for some, especially compared to more vibrant cities like Dubai. The lifestyle in Abu Dhabi is quieter, and the social scene may be limited for expatriates.
Comparison to SWFs: SWFs like ADIA, Mubadala, and QIA are more established and globally recognized. They often have structured hiring processes and attract talent from top investment banking programs. ADPF, being a pension fund, might have a slightly different focus, potentially emphasizing long-term, yield-focused investments over aggressive PE-style returns.
If you're considering a move, it might be worth evaluating how ADPF's strategy and culture align with your career goals. Additionally, recruiters targeting professionals from your FoF suggests they are scaling and looking for experienced talent, which could be an opportunity for growth.
