Advice: Looking to break into PE as a college student
I’m a College Freshman at a non-target. I want to break into PE and I’m set to graduate in a total of 2.5 years with a BA degree concentrated in finance. I’ve had two internships this year so far that aren’t directly related, Business brokerage + RE Acquisitions Analyst (Underwriting, Comps, ARV).
My goal is to break into LMM or MM hopefully directly out of grad which I know isn’t exactly possible in most cases, but one can dream. I’ve been studying all the concepts I can and practicing building LBO’s but self study only goes so far. I just want to know truthfully if there’s a possibility here and what I can do to maximize my chances starting with this summer. Additionally, do I focus on getting any PE internships I can, or do I go for IB considering the pipeline there is from IB to PE?
Any advice is appreciated.
Graduating early is not helpful for finance since the timelines are pretty rigid. It's not that difficult to break into a LMM/MM out of grad, much easier than landing a name brand IB especially if you're open to a non-NY office, but the training programs are a hugely mixed bag and exits out of there are pretty limited.
