Alvarez & Marsal PEPI vs. NACR: Better for Exit into PE?
Hi everyone,
Basically the title. Currently in a group that isn't one of the two, and was wondering if it'd be a good idea to atleast attempt to lateral into either. How do they stack up for 1) PE investor exits 2) PE ops exits. Are either of them even competitive when it comes to this, or are they both kinda meh? I've heard multiple takes on this and not sure what to believe. really really appreciate any help
Based on the most helpful WSO content, Alvarez & Marsal's PEPI (Private Equity Performance Improvement) group is generally considered stronger for exits into private equity operations roles compared to NACR. Here's how they stack up:
PE Investor Exits: Neither Alvarez & Marsal PEPI nor NACR is traditionally viewed as a direct feeder into PE investor roles. These roles typically favor candidates with investment banking or direct private equity experience. However, PEPI might have a slight edge due to its focus on operational improvements for PE portfolio companies, which can provide exposure to private equity firms and their strategies.
PE Ops Exits: Alvarez & Marsal PEPI is well-regarded for exits into private equity operations roles. The group specializes in operational turnarounds and performance improvement for portfolio companies, which aligns closely with the skill set required in PE ops. NACR, on the other hand, is less frequently mentioned in this context and may not offer the same level of exposure or reputation for PE ops exits.
If your goal is to transition into private equity operations, Alvarez & Marsal PEPI would likely be the better choice. However, for PE investor roles, you may need to consider other paths, such as investment banking or direct private equity experience, as neither group is a traditional feeder for these positions.
