A&M PEPI to PE / IB? Realistic or Not?
Currently in PEPI at A&M, and considering making a move to PE. Is this a realistic and likely transition, or should I first move to a different group internally and then try? Or, is it easier to get into IB and then move to PE? Wanted to see if anyone on here can weigh in. Looking for more deal team roles, not portco ops.
Bump
r u stupid bro? I doubt u even work at A&M PEPI based on this Q
To answer your question: No, you focus on ODD/op improvement/EBITDA uplift... not classic M&A work per se. you are POST/PRE merger integration inc carve out and demerger etc.... u have little to zero IB modelling skills to become a banker. You will very unlikely get any investment role in PE due to not having a clue about investing other than what makes a good deal from an ops pov. Plus PE prefer CDD backgrounds if they look towards hiring consultants. You may have done a little bit of CDD work but it's going to be crappy compared to MBB. Stay in PEPI, it's a solid career (or move to a t2/MBB if possible).... and also you'll be great for PE Ops roles.
r u doing odd and carve out stuff or that CFO office/HR DD stuff?
Would argue that it's possible, even if very hard. There's much more irrelevant backgrounds in PE that i've seen. Will have to lean into networking a LOT though, slim chance getting it through regular processes. PEPI is not a bad outcome at all, just want to stress that. After NACR, one of the most prestigious groups at A&M.
True, NGU mindset
